Our Vision And Mission

A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta brings the community together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.

Our History

Habitat for Humanity Calgary was founded in 1990. It is a member of Habitat for Humanity International, which was established in 1976 and has grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries. Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta was formed in 2012, with merger of Habitat Calgary, Habitat Brooks, Habitat Medicine Hat, and Habitat Mountain View. Since 1990, Habitat has helped more than 350 families buy an affordable home in communities across Southern Alberta.

How It All Works

Habitat for Humanity created an affordable homeownership program to help families build independence, strength, and stability.

  • Qualifying families have the opportunity to purchase an affordable home from Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta with no down payment required.
  • Mortgage payments on the homes are calculated so that families do not pay more than 30% of their income.
  • A part of the Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta program, families contribute 500 volunteer hours towards a Habitat for Humanity program.
  • Individuals are required to have a consistent full-time work history with children under the age of majority.
